Celebrating Childhood

The Primary Division recently held a heartwarming event centered around the theme of “Childhood”—and what a beautiful celebration it was!

The day was filled with laughter, energy, and unforgettable moments as parents took center stage, playing alongside their children and fellow parents in a variety of exciting games.

From classic childhood favorites to friendly competitions, the event rekindled the joy of play in everyone. It was truly special to see parents reliving their own childhoods while creating new memories with their children. The atmosphere radiated pure happiness, reinforcing the importance of play in learning, bonding, and growing together as a community.

A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who participated with such enthusiasm. Your involvement made this event truly special, leaving a lasting impression on our students and the entire school community.

I am known for….. the welfare of others

Our junior youth students recently visited the Tora Charity Organization, where they spent quality time with the children, engaging in games and creative activities. Their visit was filled with joy and meaningful connections.

In addition to their time and companionship, our students generously donated essential items such as clothing, school supplies, and food. The gratitude and happiness of the children at Tora were truly heartwarming, and the organization deeply appreciated the kindness and generosity of our school community.

This visit was a valuable experience that reinforced the importance of empathy, kindness, and giving back.

We are proud of our junior youth students for their commitment to making a positive impact, and we sincerely thank you, our parents, for your continued support in fostering these values.

Virtue Matters

Primary Division celebrated a vibrant Virtue Festival filled with inspiring activities that highlighted the importance of virtues in our daily lives. Students showcased their understanding of virtues through songs, poems, presentations, and interactive activities, making the event both meaningful and memorable.

This festival provided a wonderful opportunity for our young learners to express and internalize virtues in creative ways, reinforcing our school’s commitment to character development.

Thank you for your continued support in nurturing these values in our students.

A Vibrant JYP Festival!

The auditorium was filled with beaming faces, joyful laughter, and hearty applause as middle school students marked the Junior Youth Program Festival.

There was a wide array of activities, ranging from greetings in different languages to both traditional and contemporary dances, story narratives, songs, and drama. The ICT gurus from Year 8 were also not left behind, as they gave a vivid presentation about computer hardware.

The students did not shy away from sharing their achievements in the program, the virtues and life lessons they have learned since the beginning of the academic year, and how they apply them in real life. Their powerful expressions were admired by all members of the school community who attended the festival.

The collaborative game among parents, students, and teachers brought out the inner child in everyone who participated.

In attendance was Ms. Genet G/Mariam, one of the founders and managers of Tora Charity Organization. She awarded One Planet a certificate of appreciation and gratitude on behalf of the children and women it supports, recognizing the commendable services that the students and teachers have been rendering.

Indeed, junior youth is a period filled with limitless potential that should be nurtured with care.

We take great pride in our junior youth students for their dedication to creating a positive impact. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to our parents for their unwavering support in fostering these values.

Our Students Shine at the Giants of Africa Event!

Our students participated in a three-day event organized by Giants of Africa, an NBA- and Nike-affiliated organization dedicated to promoting basketball across Africa. Hosted at International Community School (ICS), this groundbreaking event gave our students an incredible opportunity to grow both on and off the court.

Thirteen of our students had the privilege of receiving professional basketball training while exploring career opportunities in sports. Beyond the game, they were inspired to develop their leadership, teamwork, and academic aspirations.

The event was honored by the presence of the U.S. and Canadian Ambassadors, who encouraged all participants to strive for excellence—not only in sports but also in their education and personal growth. Their words of encouragement were truly motivating!

At One Planet, we believe in a holistic approach to education—where academics, sports, and character development go hand in hand. We are incredibly proud of our students for embracing this opportunity and representing our school with passion and dedication.

A heartfelt thank you to Giants of Africa, the NBA, and Nike for making this event possible. This is just the beginning!

Sharing Green Vision

One Planet’s Environment Club members had the chance to exchange ideas with Mrs. Celia Wade Brown, who is a Green Party Member of Parliament in New Zealand. Celia took time out of her busy schedule, whilst on a trip to London, to join a live video conference with our Environment Club members.

The former Mayor of Wellington and environmental advocate answered interesting questions about her inspirational life experiences posed by the students. Wade Brown was very encouraging about our Environment Club’s vision for a greener lifestyle by following the Four R’s: Recycle, Reduce, Reuse, and Repeat. She was also appreciative of their plastic bottle reduction drive, medicinal garden school plantings, and vernicle garden proposals.

The Green Party MP made us all laugh by recalling the moment that she arrived for a high-profile meeting with Hilary Clinton on a bicycle wearing second-hand but formal attire! Celia encouraged our club members to be politically aware leaders that work with local authorities on a grass-roots level in order to affect positive change and social action.

The Nature Lovers Club’s Li’elena Hailu was present and introduced her school’s environmental action projects. All in all, the meeting was a resounding success and left all present feeling more aware about how to tackle the pressing environmental issues and challenges that we face.

Celia Wade Brown was very impressed with how “well prepared” our students were and pledged to have a follow-up conference with us from New Zealand in a couple of months’ time!

We would like to thank Mrs. Brown for her willingness to dedicate her time and share her experiences with our students.
